We must give credit where credit is due, excellent job folks. MDNR finally managing our deer herd by scientific methods.
The DNR Director is turning the department around!

It has been illegal since 1990 to kill an all-white or albino deer in Michigan, but there is no biological reason not to shoot one. The state Natural Resources Commission imposed the ban at the behest of the late Joe Mack, a powerful legislator from the Upper Peninsula. Mack asked for the no-shooting rule to placate a constituent, who was upset because someone killed a white deer he had been feeding. Mack’s district included Marquette County, where a number of semi-tame piebald, albino and white deer live in Presque Isle Park.

Default A little off topic.

A little off topic but thought I would share. Last week, I happened to see what I guess would be referred to as a piebald robin in my driveway. There was about 20 of them total (robins) and the others didn't seem to mind the odd one was around. While going to my local sportsmans club the same day I had an albino grey squirrel cross the road in front of my vehicle. I had to break a little to avoid hitting it.

Cool to view, but a genetic defect not desirable in the animal population.

I think stupid deer hunting laws are pretty common in many states, Kentucky included.

The biggest issue with Kentucky's deer season is the complexity of it. I've advocated for several years that we simplify this state's deer seasons and reduce the number of "Special" weekends or weeks in favor of managing the herd with tags which we do now, and not arranging the deer season so that it requires the ownership of $6000 worth of different weapons to take advantage of it.

Some states have a no hunting on Sundays law, and really I don't understand that. It looks to me like it favors the non-working people over the working folks.

We are getting in some areas a spread requirement on deer, and I think that is a very poor idea that will lead to a lot of dead deer left laying in the woods. Let's be honest, you can turn a 14 1/2" largemouth back if you have a 15" limit, but you can't kill and release a deer. What's a guy to do if he shoots a 14 5/8" spread deer in an area that has a 15" minimum? Haul it out and turn himself in? Leave It lay and go find another one?

Pretty soon it will get to the point that we have a season for 243 and below calibered rifles and one for 270 and above.

THE OUTDOOR PRESSROOM

Mich. DNR chief wants to end albino deer protection
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries wants to make it legal for hunters to kill albino deer during the state's whitetail deer season--reversing a ban that has been in effect since the early 1990s--on grounds that the protection is both an unreasonable burden on hunters and biologically unsound. In The Lansing State Journal.

The real story on the possible albino deer law.

Gaylord DNR Rally 4-5-08

I was able to talk with State Representatives, Tom Casperson and Kevin Elsenheimer. Kevin agreed to review my documentation and see what can do, to help. Tom Casperson agreed to contact Attorney General Mike Cox and see what he could do to get things investigated.
